ProFriends: Preventing Pests Invasion

Pests can be a real pain. Not only do they surprise you and freak you out like a little girl (okay, that’s just me haha) but they can potentially carry diseases as well. Roaches can cause salmonella, cholera, hepatitis, typhoid, and so on. Rats can cause rabies, leptospirosis and more. Mosquitoes cause dengue and termites damage wood. Bed bugs are annoying. All of them are actually annoying. Prevent your home from inviting these uninvited guests through the following tips. We’ll also apply these once we move in to our Lancaster home (project of Profriends).

Plants VS Pesties

There are plants that help keep out pests especially mosquitoes. Citronella is a popular plant against mosquitoes since it is the most common ingredient used in mosquito repellents (spray, lotion, patches, etc). The plant has a stronger smell so it is more effective. Get planting! For ants, plant spearmint; for mites, plant garlic/onion/chives; for mice; plant mint/neem cake, and for other kinds of pests, check Wikipedia.

On the other hand, be careful on what you plant because some plants may attract pests. A banana tree can attract termites, for example. A friend told me that termites like the soft roots of the banana tree so they infest like crazy. Thinking about it makes me itchy.

Tower Defense – Home Edition

Place screens on your windows and doors to prevent flies, mosquitoes and other kinds of pests to get inside your home. Make sure to check every wall, passageways, nook and cranny for holes or potential passageways for pests. Take action quickly else you’ll have to go through the pain of living with them for a while (eek!).

Keep your home clean and orderly. Pests like dirty and cramped places so better avoid that in your home.

Place traps in places that are usually damp and dark for just in case. Eliminate those who want to trespass. Shoot to kill! Haha!

Pestimon – Gotta catch ‘em all!

If the enemy has landed, then it is time hunt them down. There are so many weapons.. er, traps to choose from. A fly paper can trap both flies and baby mice. For the big mice, a bigger trap would be better. For mosquitoes and other flying insects, invest in a bug zapper. The mosquito ovicidal larvicidal trap is a safer way to kill mosquitos and helps prevent further population of the dengue-causing pest.

For roaches, use the handy dandy anti-roach spray. But if you want a chemical-free approach, a tablespoon of borax, cup of flour, and granulated or powdered sugar with water until pasty. Make balls and place them in potential roach hiding place. Roaches will eat it and get poisoned.

If you are financially blessed and don’t want to get your hands dirty, then just call the pros. I think some offer healthier options for anti-pest sprays / smokes but I’m not sure who and how much. Also, take precautionary measures for yourself like applying anti-mosquito lotions, sprays, and patches and anti-flu shots or vaccines.

Nasty, right?

PROFRIENDS VS CAMELLA (Website)

Okay, so I did a ProFriends versus Camella post before regarding two projects they both have in San Fernando City, Pampanga. I will do another (similar projects in the same place again) in the future. Last time, Pro-Friends won. Let’s see who will win the next time.

In the meantime, the next battle would be about the websites of the two. I have hung around a couple of times in both websites. Here’s my assessment.

Pro Friends

Camella

URL
When it comes to the url, Camella did a good job of adding .ph since it quickly gives users an idea where this business is based. Both have redirected .htaccess as well, making it even more convenient for users (sorry, for being a bit too geeky there).

Layout Design
The Camella website stuck to its logo’s colors which is good. But I like Pro-Friends’ blue scheme even if its logo is green in color. Why? Blue has a calming effect and according to Huffingtonpost, the color stands for strength and trust. Successful brands that used the blue color are Facebook, Twitter, Intel, Wordpress, and more.

Font choice is great. No Comic Sans here! Haha!

Both ProFriends and Camella did a good job with placing banner images at the top and making it very prominent. Props, too, for not being too long (vertically or lengthwise) since it is tiring to scroll down many times. But there’s just a waste of space at PCFI’s middle part though. Are they going to add more info on that said space? I don’t know.

Features
Both have the necessary features for a business website namely the quick search tool bar, property or home finder options, social media buttons, contact info, videos, and news. But Pro Friends take the cake on this one for its chat feature. It is fully functional. I know because I hung around their website and they automatically initiate the chat when they detect you. Usually, people rant about phone lines and other means of contact being unavailable. So this is a good sign for PCFI.

User Interface
Regarding user interface, both are great. Links are working; loading time is good, and visuals are nice.

The Verdict
It’s a tie. Both websites are great, nothing very big or drastic to criticize about. It’s good that they have dedicated time and effort into their websites. Many people now use the Internet to get information since it’s quick and easy rather than calling and asking about everything or going to the office just to get some basic information.

Do you agree with my verdict? Or not? How about with my assessment? Visit their websites and make your own assessment. J Then go ahead and comment away in the comments section! I’ll be waiting!

Lancaster Home Update: So we tried to request for a house viewing through our trusted agent. He told us he will but he just can’t give a specific date yet since it only just begun (the building phase). If we go there, we’ll see nothing yet but an empty lot. LOL! Sorry, for being excited much! Haha!
