Profriends: Getting Rid of Stink in Your Home

What sense is there in having a gorgeous home when it stinks like hell? It is such a waste when a good looking person smells so badly, right? The same concept applies to homes. So I am here, your friendly online OC gay, to help you in getting rid of your home’s bad smell and maintaining a fresh smelling home that would surely invite every kind of nose. (I am equipped with every kind of home maintenance knowledge so that when we finally get to live in our Lancaster New City [ProFriends / Property Company of Friends Inc] home, we will live a very bonggaycious life. Haha!)

First of all, strategically place exhaust fans or vents in your home. Where is/are the place/s that usually host/s a lot of funky smells and odors? The kitchen and bathroom, right? Place exhaust fans there. I advise you to have the switches separated from the lights to save on energy and save on your electric bill.

Most people light scented candles or spray fresheners in the bathroom whenever someone did a number 2 on the toilet. You may opt for that but the mixed smell of stink and sweet just smells more yucky to me. I prefer lighting a matchstick and letting it burn for a while. It’s a cheaper trick, too. Doubt it? Try it!
For refrigerators, fishy smell from seafood and other strong smell from other food maybe avoided from spreading by placing those ingredients in tightly sealed plastic bags or containers. But to really be sure that your refrigerator doesn’t build up on stink, place unused charcoal in the corner of your refrigerator. It absorbs stench. A used teabag also helps absorb stench (just be careful not to use your teabag again for a drink. I mistakenly did that and eeyuuuucckkk! It was gross).

For shoes, always wear socks or foot socks! Use a foot deodorant, too. We all know that! But if your feet are just that strong, place them in shoe boxes to avoid further spreading the smell. Place desiccants or silica gels (the free white packets with words bearing “DO NOT EAT” you see in some stuff you buy) in the box to absorb moisture. Spraying Lysol or deodorizing sprays before storing away shoes may help lessen the smell. I also place some of those free silica gels in drawers and cabinets just to avoid moisture and avoid the spreading of mold or mildew.
For the overall freshness of your home, a handy dandy deodorizer spray, incense, scented candle or diffuser may help. But if you want to really spread a nice smell in your home especially when guests are coming over, bake some bread or pastry. Or brew some coffee. Or buy goods from Cinnabon (you can serve it to them as well). Or boil orange peels in a pot of water and add a teaspoon of cinnamon. These are natural alternatives that would surely be enjoyable to the sense of smell and to your health.
