Pro-Friends: Healthy Living With Pets

Simply ADORABLE! (Image source: welovecutepets.blogspot.com)

Yes, dogs and cats are cute. Seeing them at BGC, Eastwood, MOA, and so on can make you want to have one. But are you really prepared to have one? Just like babies, they are cute but they come with responsibilities on your part. If you’re still in the process of deciding whether to get one or not, then read on. Also, you never know when someone might gift you with a pet so read and be prepared.

Know the Policy
Of course, the very first thing you need to consider before getting a pet is to know if it is allowed in your place of residence (Pro-friends’ Lancaster allow pets. Hooray!). Also, consider the people living in your area. Your siblings may be asthmatic or allergic to pets. Consider their safety first before your interest.

Research
The Internet is at your disposal; go ahead and use it. Read about the pet you want. This way, you won’t be frustrated when they misbehave or you won’t accidentally let them die. (An acquaintance bought a pet and the next day, it died due to the hot weather. Poor pup!) Watching TV shows like Dog Whisperer and My Cat from Hell may help you get to know more about dogs and cats. They’re fun to watch, too!

Ask Around
Interview friends who are pet owners to get ideas on how living with pets is like. They can offer tips as well. Some are even generous enough to give you their spare pet items.

Plan
Don’t neglect your pets. You got them; you should love them. Animals are living beings. They also need love and care. Make sure to plan ahead on how you would feed and groom them despite your schedule. Be sure you have contacts who can look after your pets in case you would go on an out-of-town trip and such.

Buy Necessities
Before taking your new pet home, be sure you already have pet food in stock. Also, be sure he/she already has a certain space or spot in your home to sleep on. Treat it like a guest.

Make Grooming a Habit
Some pets tend to sweat more or become smelly so quickly. Be sure to bathe or groom them often (depending on the breed and size) so that they can always be huggable. (C’mon, a cute pet isn’t so cute when it smells.) This will also help prevent ticks and other pests from pestering you and your pet.

Go to the Vet regularly
Don’t go to the vet only when your pet is sick. Schedule a monthly visit so that you can have your pet checked for potential illnesses. Get anti-rabies shots and such. Regularly going to the vet this will also help your pet become familiar with your vet and with the clinic.

Have Fun
Enjoy the perks of having a pet. Enjoy its cuteness. Dress him/her up! Flaunt him/her in public places. Take pictures and bask in the admiration of many people. Haha!
